Bastrop County Traffic Court Records
Justice courts handle fine-only misdemeanors and other matters inside their precinct jurisdiction. City traffic, parking, ordinance, and Class C cases go elsewhere. Those head to the Bastrop Municipal Court of Record, the Elgin Municipal Court, or the Smithville Municipal Court. Route by the agency on the ticket and the court printed on it. The driver's home address does not control.
County Odyssey may show justice and municipal categories. But the city clerk stays the authority for that city's citation, plea, payment, and setting. A court record can include the citation, filed date, and plea. Scheduled events, orders, payments, and the disposition may appear too. It is a case file, not a substitute for a state driving record.
Which Bastrop County Traffic Court Has the Ticket
The Bastrop County justice-court directory lists Precincts 1 through 4 and their contact routes.

The directory helps you spot a precinct office, but the citation controls where the response must be made.
| Citation source | Likely record keeper | Confirm with |
|---|---|---|
| County or state enforcement citation assigned to a JP | Named precinct clerk | Citation and JP office |
| City of Bastrop citation | Bastrop Municipal Court clerk | City court |
| Elgin citation | Elgin Municipal Court clerk | City Hall Annex court office |
| Smithville Police citation | Smithville Municipal Court clerk | City court within ten working days |
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
For a JP1 citation, the official traffic-ticket instructions send you to Odyssey Criminal Case Records. Select Citation and type the number exactly as printed. If that fails, switch to Defendant and fill in the identity fields the portal asks for. Then open the case-number link to read the record.
- Read the issuing agency, court, citation number, and printed appearance date from the ticket.
- In Odyssey, choose Criminal Case Records, then Citation, and enter the exact citation number.
- If no result appears, try Defendant mode with the required name fields and optional details only as needed.
- For a city case, use its municipal court route. Texas re:SearchTX is a separate statewide system and may require registration.
- Call the named court or visit its counter when the ticket is missing, the deadline is near, or a setting changed.
JP1 may not yet have a citation that an officer has not filed. Its instructions say to check weekly. Call two days before the original appearance date if the citation is still absent. Need a copy the portal does not supply? A mailed request or a call to the clerk works too.
Bastrop County Citation Search Fields
Odyssey offers four criminal search categories. Pick the wrong one, and a valid citation can look missing. Soundex is the default and broadens name matching, while Exact Name demands tighter last, first, and middle matches.
| Search mode | Fields | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Citation | Citation Number, up to 30 characters | Best first try with the paper ticket |
| Defendant | Required last and first name; optional middle name, birth date, license number | Fallback when the citation number does not return |
| Case | Case Number, up to 30 characters | Use after a clerk or result supplies the case number |
| Attorney | Name or bar number | Searches counsel, not the cited party |
Filters also cover All, Open, or Closed status plus filed-date bounds. Keep optional identity fields from a result to yourself.
How to Find Your Traffic Court Date
The paper citation may show an appearance date, but JP1 warns that filing delay can extend it and generate a new decision or ticket due date. So treat the online result as a snapshot. Confirm the latest date with the responsible clerk. Call especially if the citation has not appeared or the record shows a reset.
| Citation number | Enter the exact printed value, represented safely as CITATION-AS-PRINTED. |
|---|---|
| Court | The named municipal court or JP precinct that keeps the case. |
| Date and time | The appearance, hearing, or trial setting, checked against current clerk information. |
| Setting type | A response date, trial, hearing, or other event; these terms are not interchangeable. |
| Status | Open or closed portal classification plus any event notation shown. |
Need your live traffic setting? Ask the issuing court directly, since that clerk holds the current docket date.
For more detail, the county's court dates resource walks through the Odyssey calendar filters for Bastrop County dockets.
When a Bastrop County Citation Is Missing
A missing result does not erase the ticket or its deadline. The officer may not have delivered the citation for filing. A name search may differ. Or the matter may sit in a city system rather than the county route. Keep the ticket. Note every search date.
The JP1 office page shows the precinct's current location, hours, and contact policy.

If a web search has not caught up with a new filing, call the clerk directly to confirm a Bastrop County citation and its court date.
Missing near the deadline? Follow the issuing court's instructions, call the clerk, and retain proof of any timely written response. Do not wait for a portal result to appear.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Payment and a not-guilty response are different procedural choices. Read the plea effect and deadline straight from the citation and court instructions. JP1 uses a Trial Request for a not-guilty plea. It permits a judge or jury choice. It also describes a mailed notarized plea. If a trial letter does not arrive within a month, call.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| Follow the issuing court's accepted payment route and understand the plea recorded. | Submit a not-guilty plea or trial request in the form that court requires. |
| Use the deadline on the citation or the court's updated due date. | Meet the same response deadline unless the court changes it. |
| Possible routes include online, phone, mail, drop box, or counter, depending on court. | JP1 describes a notarized mailed plea and judge-or-jury selection; city procedures differ. |
Do not treat a phone call as an appearance. Bastrop Municipal Court's citation form expressly says a call is not an appearance. Missing a required response or setting can lead to added court action, so contact the clerk for the case's current status and instructions.
Bastrop County Driver Safety and Deferral Routes
Driver safety or deferred disposition is not automatic, and there is no one countywide workflow. JP1 lists a guilty or no-contest plea, supporting papers, and local exclusions. Some exclusions are a commercial driver's license and a course completed within twelve months. Others are lack of a valid Texas license and speeds over 25 mph above the limit. A construction zone with workers counts, and so does passing a school bus. Drivers under 25 may also face an Alive at 25 requirement.
JP2 publishes a different deferred-disposition process. Send a written request postmarked on or before the appearance date. Include $144 in court costs by money order or cashier's check. Then wait for court approval before starting any course.

This is why a JP2 request should never be copied from JP1 instructions. Verify the amount and eligibility with the named court before acting.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
These are two files with different custodians. Bastrop County traffic courts keep the case created by a citation. A state licensing agency keeps the separate driving record. Separating them here simply keeps a request from going to the wrong office.
| Court traffic record | Driving record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept by | Issuing JP or municipal-court clerk | Texas state driver-record custodian |
| Shows | Citation, plea, settings, orders, payment, disposition | State-maintained driver history |
| Request route | Court portal, phone, mail, or clerk counter | State agency's own record-request channel |
A court search that returns nothing may reflect filing timing, court selection, or access limits. It says nothing about what a separate state file contains.
Bastrop County Municipal Ticket Channels
Bastrop Municipal Court of Record handles city traffic tickets at 104 Grady Tuck Lane. Call (512) 332-8650 or email bmc@cityofbastrop.org. The counter is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday hours run 8:00 a.m. to noon. Pay online or by phone and expect a 3.95% processing fee. A driver-safety course runs $144 outside a school zone. In a school zone the form lists $169. Its eligibility and attachment rules should be confirmed with the clerk.
Elgin runs its traffic docket from the City Hall Annex at 310 N Main Street. Reach the court at (512) 281-0318, fax (512) 285-3512, or municipalcourt@elgintexas.gov. Payments go through the TrafficPayment route or the vendor line at (800) 444-1187. The clerk itself answers record and setting questions. Court sessions or training can close the office, so call ahead before visiting.
Smithville asks anyone cited by Smithville Police to contact its Municipal Court. Do so within ten working days. Payment works in person, by mail, by drop-box, online, or by phone. Card or ACH convenience fees are added. One caution matters here. A payment vendor cannot resolve a plea, a trial, a setting, or a court-record request.
Verify a Bastrop County Traffic Record
Save more than a quick glance when you pull up a Bastrop County traffic case. Note the citation number. Note the case number if one was assigned. Record the exact court, the setting type, the date, and the current status. Jot down the search filters too, plus the date you ran the search.
One caution matters here. What a portal shows proves only that moment. It is no substitute for a certified case record or a later call to the clerk. When a deadline is near, when a citation never appears, or when a setting seems to have moved, go straight to the issuing court. File the confirmation with the ticket and any mailed or emailed response. That way you can rebuild the docket search later. You also avoid writing private identity details into a public note.
Bastrop County Citation Lookup Source
For a Bastrop County justice-court ticket, the official JP1 citation page lays out the local lookup steps and the appearance guidance that court follows.

The instructions on that page tell you to start with the exact citation number. Check weekly while a filing delay runs on, and call the clerk as the original appearance date gets close.
Bastrop County JP2 Traffic Contact
The JP Precinct 2 page gives the Smithville-area court's location, hours, email, and current contact route.

Before you mail anything to Justice Court 2, look at its live traffic page. That Bastrop County court posts its own clerk instructions, and they differ from JP1 and from municipal-court procedures.
Copies and Fees
Copy fees for a Bastrop County traffic file depend on which court keeps it. JP1 lists one set of prices. You can find them on its records form. Bastrop Municipal Court has its own processing charge, and its city driver-safety amounts cover something else entirely. None of those figures are copy fees. Need certification, extra pages, postage, or a records search? Ask the clerk for a written total first.
| Item | Published amount | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| JP1 certified first copy | $2.25 | JP1 request form |
| Each added JP1 certified page | 25 cents | JP1 request form |
| JP1 non-certified first copy | $1.25 | JP1 request form |
| Each added JP1 non-certified page | 25 cents | JP1 request form |
| Bastrop city payment processing | 3.95% | Payment channel, not a record-copy fee |
Order a plain copy when you just want to review the court docket yourself. Get a certified copy only when the recipient demands one. Posted amounts can change, so confirm each fee before you send payment.
